Youth for coexistence: A new horizon for combating social intolerance in Europe

Youth for coexistence: A new horizon for combating social intolerance in Europe

It has been an exciting month. We have begun working together on the Youth for Coexistence initiative, which aims to train 340 youth workers and young leaders in peacebuilding skills specifically designed for the current European context. This program is designed for youth workers, educators, emerging youth leaders, and youth organizations that face the daily challenges of radicalization, hate speech, and civic disengagement among young people.

But why now? Europe faces unprecedented challenges: the rise of hate speech on social media, widespread misinformation, and growing youth support for extremist movements. Our goal is to work on the first implementation phase for 32 months (September 2025 – April 2028) and thus build a long-term effort.

This consortium of five organizations from Spain, Hungary, Estonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Portugal will develop innovative tools to empower youth workers and young leaders. Our team is led by Anthropolis (Hungary), which, together with AsfarEurope, PCRC, Check-IN, and Rinova, combines decades of experience in peacebuilding, non-formal education, and youth development.

Rinova contributes its expertise in social innovation, digital learning, and creative content development, ensuring that methodologies and digital platforms are accessible, effective, and attractive to new generations.

Concrete actions that will change lives:

  • Intercultural and interreligious dialogue techniques
  • Literacy against misinformation and effective counter-narratives
  • Conflict resolution and cultural sensitivity
  • Sustainable peacebuilding, including green approaches

We will create five key products available free of charge to the entire European youth community:

  • · Coexistence methodology and curriculum: A comprehensive training program with a manual for trainers
  • · Youth Democracy Digital Kit: Interactive tools to encourage active civic participation
  • · Digital peacebuilding game: Gamification with real-life scenarios for learning by doing
  • · “Beyond Borders” network: A sustainable network connecting young people and professionals in the peace sector
  • · Strategic Coexistence Guide: Practical guidance for combating social intolerance at the community level

Throughout the project, impactful activities will be developed, including 6 local workshops (5 in-person + 1 digital). An intensive international pilot program will also be held in Hungary (April 2027, 30 participants). In addition, there will be 4 transnational coordination meetings between partners and a final conference in Sarajevo (February 2028) that will bring together 70 delegates from all countries to disseminate the results and consolidate the European youth leadership network.

If you work with young people, if you are concerned about the democratic future of Europe, if you believe that education and dialogue are the answer to hatred, this project is for you.

Youth for Coexistence is a collaborative effort by five European organizations:

Anthropolis Antropológiai Közhasznú Egyesület (Hungary), AsfarEurope MTÜ (Estonia) Post-Conflict Research Center (Bosnia-Herzegovina), Associação Check-IN (Portugal) and Rinova Málaga (Spain)
